Login Instructions:

You will be using 2 primary websites in this course: www.wiredprof.com and the WebCT courseware. All online classes at Fullerton College use WebCT. The following grid explains which site contains the tools and information you will need for this course.

www.wiredprof.com

WebCT (cvc2.org/webct/)

bulletCourse syllabus
bulletWeekly schedule (updates will be posted here)
bulletLecture notes
bulletEssay assignments
bulletWriting and other resources
bulletDiscussion Board (for discussing assigned readings and anything else you desire)
bulletIntra-course e-mail to classmates (I may use this for messages, but I will answer e-mail only my darrencs@fullcoll.edu account).
bulletOptional personal calendar

You do not need a username and password to access the WiredProf.com site. However, you will need a username and password for the WebCT site, which is hosted by the California Virtual Campus (CVC), an entity that maintains all of our on-line and hybrid courses and makes sure they run smoothly.

To gain access to the CVC/WebCT site, you need a USERNAME and PASSWORD.

USERNAMES:

Your USERNAME consists of the first two letters of your first name in ALL CAPS, the first two letters of your last name in ALL CAPS and the next-to-last 4 numbers of your Permanent (Student) ID#. (Consult the list above because the account generator may have inadvertently changed the very last digit.) For example, if Darren Chiang-Schultheiss’s Perm# was 123456, then my USERNAME would be DACH2345. Your USERNAME must be typed in UPPER CASE or you won't be able to log in. This is very important to remember.

PASSWORDS:

Your PASSWORD is the word STUDENT in ALL CAPS.

IMPORTANT! All students received NEW Banner PIDMs (student #s) for Fall 2001. Very likely, many of you will forget your number or lose it. You may also try to use your old number to log in and it won't work. Please make sure you use your NEW ID.

ALSO IMPORTANT!! CHANGE your PASSWORD immediately or another student may be able to access your class, view your grades, and destroy your work. WRITE DOWN your password. Set up your PASSWORD HINT within WebCT. PLEASE write it down! A lost password may mean you lose all your work in the class, it may mean that you miss important due dates and/or it may mean that you cannot log in for 48 hours. It is also important that you preserve the privacy of your account. Under no circumstances should you ever give out your PASSWORD.

LOGGING IN:
To log in, use the FALL 2001 LOGIN link at the California Virtual Campus:

  1. Click here: http://cvc2.org/webct/ then click on the link that says FALL 2001 LOGIN.
  2. You'll be prompted to enter a password reminder.
  3. Next, enter your USERNAME and PASSWORD.  Once you are authenticated, find the Change Password link in the upper right part of the window and update your password to whatever you want.  Just be sure to write it down and not to forget it.
  4. Follow the directions in the orientations page that you may have already read.

PROBLEMS??
If you cannot log in, then ask yourself the following:

bulletDid I type my USERNAME in ALL CAPS?
bulletIs it the correct USERNAME? (Review the directions on the CVC site.)
bulletDid I type my PASSWORD in ALL CAPS? (Your initial password is STUDENT until you change it.)
bulletIs CAP LOCKS off on my computer keyboard? (It's best to use the SHIFT key to type your USERNAME.)
bulletDid I ADD the class in the last few days? If so, your name may not have been added yet.

If all else fails, e-mail me or submit the WebCT Help form at

http://www.fullcoll.edu/pub/webct/webcthelp.cfm

If you are a FIRST-TIME USER of WebCT, you may want to review the WebCT orientation at:

http://cvc2.org/OrientationWebCT/orient_wct1.htm

The Fullerton College administrator of this program, Oceanography professor Sean Chamberlin, has posted a guide to using WebCT at the following site:

http://staffwww.fullcoll.edu/schamberlin

Feel free to look at that information and use it. It’s very informative.

Whenever you log into the course, make sure you look at the homepage. Students have a tendency to move right to the discussion boards and other things, but the homepage is where I will post important announcements.
