AUGUST-09 (WEEK 3)
-
Essay 1 Rough Draft:
Your rough draft of Essay 1 is due in class this week.
To receive full credit for the peer critique session, you
must bring a rough draft that is at
least 3 full pages long.
(The Works Cited page does not count as one of the 3 required
pages.) Anything less
will not receive full credit and will not give your audience a very
good sense of where your paper is headed.
Please bring 3 copies of your
draft (even though the weekly schedule says 2 copies).
I will use 1 of the 3 copies to record your peer critique
score and to briefly review in class.
Do not bring an essay whose topic I have not first approved;
you won't get credit for the peer critique activity.
-
Content Quiz 2 & Usage Quiz B:
These will be posted to CE6 a bit
later tonight. Remember
that you'll have until Saturday midnight of this week to complete
the 2 quizzes. (Several
of you did not complete the quizzes from last week.)
In the Usage Glossary of the SF Writer handbook, Quiz
B covers the words from "American through "bad/badly."
You can always find out what the quizzes will cover by going
to the Quiz Topic link on the course website
<http://www.wiredprof.com/100h/WebCT/quiztopics.htm>.
-
Online Discussion Board:
This is the first week in which we REALLY will be using CE6 and the
Discussion Board for the course, now that you are familiar with how
it works. To prepare for
the CE6 work, view the 2 Discussion Threads for Week 3 on the course
website < http://www.wiredprof.com/100h/WebCT/topics.htm>.
There are 2 sample essays that you have to read by Wednesday,
which is the day your commentary posting is due.
I recommend that you write out your response first and then
paste it into the Discussion Board window to avoid a "time-out"
error at CE6 if you take a while to write a thoughtful response.
You should review the guidelines again at
<http://www.wiredprof.com/100h/WebCT/index.htm> if you have
forgotten the length that postings should be.
-
Online Lecture Notes:
Remember to read the online lecture notes for Week 3.
-
Email Etiquette:
There are a few things to remember about using email for this
course. I receive
between 80 - 100 messages in a day from students and colleagues, and
I have to have a way to manage all of the mail that comes in.
Most of you have been very diligent about using the key words
100 Alpha in your subject lines, and this helps me tremendously.
Remember, too, that you need to add a more specific subject
than this; otherwise, I'm not going to know how to prioritize your
messages, and they may not get sorted into your class' sub-folder
correctly. Please be
very conscientious of what your subject line says, and be sure it
matches the content of your email message.
