Discussion Board Requirements (summary)

  • Each instruction week runs from Sunday through Saturday midnight.

  • Each week you will write two kinds of postings:

    • commentaries (due by Wednesday midnight every week)

    • peer responses (due by Saturday midnight every week)

  • Your commentary is a well-thought out response to each of the Blackboard discussion questions.  The length of your commentary should fill the message window in the Blackboard discussion board (approximately 80-100 words).  These commentaries are always due by Wednesday midnight to receive credit.

  • Additionally, you must post a peer response to one other classmate's commentary for each of the discussion questions.  Again, your reply should fill the message window in the Blackboard discussion board.  For example, if a week has 2 discussion questions, you write a commentary for each discussion question, and then you reply to a classmate for each question.  You will have made a total of 4 postings.  These peer responses are always due by Saturday midnight to receive credit.

  • Keep in mind that most discussion questions require that you have read the assignment in the online column of your weekly schedule.

  • Remember, your initial response must be posted by Wednesday midnight so that your classmates can reply to your posting by Saturday at midnight.

Reminders

  • When posting a response, reply initially to the instructor's discussion question.  Do not start a new discussion thread.  You'll confuse your classmates.
  • Reply directly to a student's posting.  When you refresh the messages (click UPDATE on the discussion board), you will see your message indented underneath your classmate's message or the message you replied to.
  • Above all, have fun with this discussion forum.  It is a way to test ideas, hypotheses, and opinions.
